Wipe any excess glue from the ceramic surface with a dry tissue. Wipe excess baking soda from the glazed ceramic surface with a moistened tissue.Īpply super glue over the crack and allow about 5 seconds for it to seep in. Rub baking soda into the crack under the teapot’s spout. Most super glues routinely include it today. ![]() The phthalic anhydride additive improves the glue’s heat and water resistance. You’ll need baking soda and super glue (cyanoacrylate) which contains phthalic anhydride. How to Repair Cracked Ceramic with Super Glue If you want to use the dishwasher for such a fine piece (though I doubt you would), let it cure another week before testing the bond under such stress. Wash with soapy water and put the teapot back to use. Rinse the pot lightly and let it air dry for a couple of days. Let the pot sit until the milk really smells. Check from time to time to make sure that milk isn’t leaking out around the band aid strip. As it sours and evaporates, the casein is left behind. Just be sure the leaking area remains covered by milk the entire time. If you can carefully tip and support the pot in a safe place, you can use less milk and the process will go more quickly. You want the milk to cover the leaking area and then some to account for evaporation. Pour milk (already close to its expiration date) into the teapot. ![]() Stretch the tape part (not the gauze) of a waterproof band aid over the outside of the gap and burnish it down. ![]() Remove the liquids and let the casein dry. When milk sours, casein precipitates out. It would not be strong enough to glue together a broken teapot but does very well to repair cracked ceramic cracks or gaps.
